4. TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE

Selecting the correct technical architecture is an important step in ensuring required functionality will be delivered intuitively and within stated time-lines. Significant differences exist between the various Business Intelligence products; each candidate product must be carefully reviewed and assessed against the documented business requirements. It is important to execute an FRC (Fit, Risk and Cost) assessment at this stage of the process – it is often the case that one product does not provide all functionality required by the business users. Certain factors such as scalability, extensibility and versatility must also be addressed when selecting the final technical architecture. 

The guiding principle for selecting the Business Intelligence technical architecture should be: “Keep it Simple”.
