Installing QuickLink

  1. Launch Excel

  2. Tools >> Options >> Add-ins >>

  3. Browse >> C:\Program Files\QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase\QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase.xla.

  4. If you are prompted to replace existing press Yes.

QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase is a custom toolbar add-in for Microsoft Excel. The QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase toolbar uses Hyperion's spreadsheet toolkit to connect and retrieve information from any Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server.

QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase is a user friendly tool that improves the functionality of features installed with Essbase. It does this by giving users a convenient Excel toolbar for AD HOC and "what if" reporting.

QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase is compatible with all 32 bit versions of Essbase and Microsoft Office 97, 2000, XP and 2003.

QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase features are displayed below. This help document explains each feature installed with QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase. For more information regarding Dimensional Technologies and its products, please visit http://www.dimensionaltechnologies.com/

The Retrieve button connects and loads data into the current active sheet. A quicker method to call the retrieve function is to double click the left-mouse button on an active sheet. This only works if you have the Essbase mouse options enabled. To enable the left-mouse support feature, press the left mouse button located on the QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase toolbar. To enable the right-mouse support feature, press the right mouse button located on the QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase toolbar.

For example: Press the retrieve button to authenticate with any Essbase server for which you have permissions. Upon successful login, all top level dimensions are displayed in the Excel active sheet and a persistent session is created with the Essbase server. Use the disconnect button to close sessions with Essbase servers.

The Keep Only button only keeps the selected members. A range of highlighted cells must be selected in order for this feature to work.

For example: Select the members, of a particular dimension, you wish to keep and press the Keep Only button to keep only the selected members.

The Remove Only button only removes the selected members. A range of highlighted cells must be selected in order for this feature to work.

For example: Select the members, of a particular dimension, you wish to remove and press the Remove Only button to remove only the selected members.

The Pivot button enables you to change the layout of your active sheet. To pivot member hierarchies, select a cell that contains a member and press the pivot button. This will move all members to the opposite axis of the active sheet.

For example: Highlight the time member on the x-axis and press pivot to switch time to the y-axis. You cannot pivot the last member hierarchy.

The Flashback button restores the previous view. The flashback feature can only undo the last action performed.

The Include Option drop-down box has two options:

Exclude: Sets the Zoom In command to exclude drilled on members.
Include: Sets the Zoom In command to include drilled on members.

The Zoom Level drop-down box has six options for Essbase hierarchy navigating:

Next: Sets the zoom level to the next level or generation.
All: Sets the zoom level to all descendants of a selected member.
Bottom: Sets the zoom level to the bottom level of a selected member.
Sibling: Sets the zoom level to the child member at the same branch level as another child member.
Same Level: Sets the zoom level to the same level as the selected member.
Generation: Sets the zoom level to the same generation of a selected member.
Calc: Sets the zoom level to the members that are stored as aggregates.

The Zoom In button takes a selected range on an active sheet and zooms it into the selected level in the "Zoom Level Drop-Down" box.

The Zoom Out button takes a selected range on an active sheet and zooms it out to the selected level in the "Zoom Level Drop-Down" box.

The Display Setting drop-down box has three options for dimension member name displaying:

Alias: Sets the dimension member names to use alias names.
Members: Sets the dimension member names to use member names.
Both: Sets the dimension member names to use alias and member names.

The Suppress Missing Data drop-down box has four options for the suppress data displaying.

None: Shows all missing data.
#Missing: Removes any rows that contains "#Missing".
Zeros: Removes any rows that contain only zeros.
Empty: Removes any rows that have Null values.

The Indent Essbase Members drop-down box has three options for Essbase formatting.

None: Does not indent any members.
Sub-Item: Indents all items that are under the specified the dimension.
Totals: Indents only those dimension members which are aggregated.

The Column-Adjust toggle button allows a user to set an option which will automatically adjust the column widths.

The Preserve Formulas toggle button toggles between preserve formulas on and preserve formulas off. If preserve formulas is on, you can retain your excel formulas on retrieval, although you cannot zoom.

The On Connect button connects Excel's active sheet to an Essbase database. Each Excel sheet in a workbook can be connected to a different Essbase database.

The Disconnect button displays a list of Excel worksheets currently connected to Essbase. These connections must be disconnected individually.

The Member Selection button opens the Essbase Member Selection Dialog box, which allows you to pick member names from a connected database.

The Essbase Options button opens the Essbase Options dialog box, which allows you to change Essbase options.

The Essbase Query Designer button opens the Essbase Query Designer. This function will allow a user to create reports using an advanced wizard interface.

The Left-Mouse Essbase toggle button toggles the functionality of the Essbase mouse options for the left-mouse button.

The Right-Mouse Essbase toggle button toggles the functionality of the Essbase mouse options for the right-mouse button.

The Replace N/A with Zero toggle button toggles the Replace N/A with Zero option. This feature replaces "N/A" with 0's only on a selected range of cells.

The Convert to Thousands button applies a numeric conversion to selected cells that contain numeric values. This numeric conversion formats all numbers by changing them to nearest thousand.

The Send Data button utilizes the Lock and Send features of the Essbase Excel Add-In.  After entering spreadsheet inputs, press this button to upload data to any connected Essbase Server.

Uninstall Options:

To uninstall QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase. Remove the QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase Add-In from Excel and delete the library that QuickLink was installed to "C:\Program Files\QuickLink for Hyperion Essbase".
